Even though we all knew this was coming, in a tweet written by TheDestinyBlog published on the 2nd of September it became clear that micro transactions will return to Destiny 2. The tweet showed a picture of a Destiny 2 flyer by GameStop, clearly showing the prices of the Silver currency.
Silver was introduced halfway through the release of the original Destiny, and was mainly used to purchase virtual items and theatrical movements for the players, called Emotes. Although there are many currencies known in the world of Destiny, Silver was the first one to cost real-world money.
The prices are listed in the GameStop flyers, but in case the text is too small:
1000 Destiny 2 Silver (with a +100 bonus) will cost $9.99
2000 Destiny 2 Silver (with a +300 bonus) will cost $19.99
We often see that a premium aspect to an already full-priced game doesn’t go that well with the fans, and as expected, the responses to the tweet were mostly negative. Complaints range from this being a cheap shot, to people complaining about Activision as a whole, as Activision is known to implement micro transactions in a lot of their modern games.
Following are some of the funny replies to the tweet:
Allegedly, as mentioned in one of the responses to the tweet by TheDestinyBlog itself, the Silver bought in the original Destiny can not be transferred to Destiny 2, but this is merely a speculation.
From what I know, no.— Andrew (@Phoenix_Throne) September 3, 2017
Recently, a big leak of Destiny 2 content happened on reddit, in which reddit user namasuki leaked information on a new Eververse-specific currency, Eververse being the in-game marketplace of Destiny where Silver and other currencies are spent. Rumour has it the new currency is called Bright Dust. Although not much is known about Bright Dust just yet, namasuki leaked that it is ‘’obtained by dismantling items acquired via Bright engrams.’’
So… micro transactions in Destiny 2, what are your thoughts on them? And what do you know of this so called Bright Dust? Let us know in the comments below!
Destiny 2 and its micro transactions will be released on Xbox One and Playstation 4 on Sept. 6 and on PC on Oct. 24.
