Electronic Arts Temporarily Removes Microtransactions From Star Wars: Battlefront 2

We have reported on the fact that microtransactions have taken over triple A games numerous times before. Obviously, many people think it’s a massive issue in modern gaming. Personally, as long as people have a fair choice, I don’t mind them too much. However, the microtransactions in Battlefront 2 have stirred up a lot of backlash towards the game. So much in fact, it has caused EA to temporarily pull microtransactions from the new Star Wars game.

According to reports, Electronic Arts has pulled the microtransactions from Star Wars: Battlefront 2, as the game has just gone live and it appears without any microtransactions. The Crystal packs, Battlefront 2’s currency, have been removed from EA’s Origin, and Amazon has also stopped selling the packs. Although not much is known, it is strongly believed by the public this will only be temporarily though, as it is expected EA will bring back the microtransactions in the future.

For now this means all gear and heroes will have to be earned via progression. This is something that we expect to be changed too at some point, as it was calculated to take incredibly long to unlock everything through progression, without paying for it. EA will most likely issue more statements about this in the near future, so stay tuned.

EA has tried to quell the controversy around the game in a recent, very civil reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything, a sort of Q&A), but many potential players think it didn’t bring many revelations, and weren’t satisfied with the answers. Of the hundreds of questions that were asked, around 30 were answered. According to the majority of the public, many important questions were left unanswered. Hopefully we can look out for the answers to all the controversy in the near future, and EA will shine more light on the current issues people have with the game.
