The Best, Lesser Known Multiplayer FPSes

Posted by Jelle 03/10/2017 PC News,

With massive shooter titles like Call Of Duty: WWII, Destiny 2 and Star Wars: Battlefront 2 dropping left and right, some people might want to resort back to cheaper, smaller FPSes. If you are one of these people, then consider playing the following, somewhat lesser known FPS games. Because mind you, none of these games are found in Steam’s top 100 concurrent player list, at least at time of publication (via PCgamer).

QUAKE CHAMPIONS - RM118.50

Quake Champions is the fifth installment of the Quake series, described as a "competitive arena-style, character-based shooter." The gameplay is mostly similar to Quake III and Quake Live, and visuals are based on the original Quake. All selectable characters have their own diverse abilities, but the core style of the gameplay is similar to other Quake games. The abilities are based on a rock-paper-scissors system, where certain abilities have natural counters. It is up to players to discover which champions work best together.

LAWBREAKERS - RM69.99 (currently 25% off, RM52.49)

We wrote about the amazing game that is LawBreakers before a while ago, so it’s only right to mention it in this list as well. In LawBreakers, two teams of five players work together to complete the objective of the mode they play, one side playing as ‘’Law’’ and the other as ‘’Breakers’’. It works similar as Overwatch, as teams may not play as characters from the rival side. The game currently has 4 game modes, each having different objectives and play styles. The game modes are similar to modes like Domination, Capture the flag and others.

RISING STORM 2: VIETNAM - RM47.00

Rising Storm 2: Vietnam is the sequel to 2013’s Rising Storm, developed by Antimatter Games and Tripwire Interactive, and co-published by Tripwire Interactive and Iceberg Interactive. Released in May 2017, the game is set during the Vietnam war, placing emphasis on asymmetric gameplay. Players can make use of era-specific weapons, and besides character and weapons customization, for the first time in the franchise players are able to take control of airborne vehicles, including attack, reconnaissance and transport helicopters.

DIRTY BOMB - FREE

Released in June 2015, Dirty Bomb is an intense Free-to-Play competitive shooter from Splash Damage, creators of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. London has become a post-apocalyptic wasteland in Dirty Bomb, and it's time to call in the mercenaries. Battle it out for riches and glory in this free-to-play team-based first-person shooter that emphasizes teamwork and strategy over lone-wolf game play. With a large variety of mercenaries to choose from, there's an option for most play styles.

SQUAD - RM75.00

Released in December 2015, Squad is an online, team-based military experience where high levels of teamwork and communication are crucial to success. Built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 4, Squad pits teams of up to 50 people against each other in intense modern day combined-arms combat scenarios. In this realistic environment, the flow of the game is dictated by the players, with organic and emergent gameplay reigning supreme.

DAY OF INFAMY - RM38.00

What started as an Insurgency mod has now turned into a standalone game. Released in March 2017, the game features tactical close-quarters WWII combat across a wide range of multiplayer and coop scenarios. Day of Infamy is a highly intense teamwork-rewarding experience.
