One of the biggest releases of 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by developer CD Projekt Red, is getting a PS4 Pro update. The update is said to take full advantage of the performance boost of the PS4 Pro. This means, an upgraded checkerboard rendering at 1920 x 2160 resolution, as well as a boost to presentation at 1080p.
Although CD Projekt Red said in September 2016 that there would not be a The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt update for the PS4 Pro, saying they would rather focus on the development of new games, instead of looking back at older games. But this year at E3, it was announced the updates for the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X were being developed.
I’m sure we all know the main idea of The Witcher 3, but for the people who don’t, here’s a little summary. Basically, the game is an action role-playing game played from a third-person perspective. It is set in the Continent, a fictional world surrounded by parallel dimensions and extra dimensional worlds. Humans, Elves, Dwarves, monsters, and other creatures live together on the Continent, but not in harmony, as non-Humans are often subject to persecution for their differences. The land is caught in a ravaging war between the empire of Nilfgaard, led by Emperor Emhyr var Emreis who invaded the Northern Kingdoms, and Redania, ruled by King Radovid V.
As said before, the update is said to improve texture filtering and renders at 1920 x 2160 using a checkerboard configuration. Overall, it is said that the update "does indeed deliver an improved presentation overall’’, but maybe not as much as fans would have hoped.
The fourth part of The Witcher is expected to be released in the future, as The Witcher 3 was such a massive success. In December 2015, CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kicinski even said it would be unfair to fans of the series not to make a fourth game. Although we don’t expect it to be released anytime soon, considering The Witcher 3 took about three and a half years to make, of which two and a half years were devoted to voice recording.
